Here’s a fun one! Meet Shannon Gerard. As her website proclaims, she’s a “Dork. Dreamer. Discerning Bibliophile”. She’s a multi-media artist who writes and draws books, makes prints, and produces large-scale installations incorporating stop-motion animation and wheat paste. Our personal favourite works of hers, however, are her “Plants You Can’t Kill”
Here is how Shannon describes them:
"Like my other crochet projects, Plants You Can’t Kill are attractive on the surface while also speaking to our human insecurities. These pretty little cacti, aloe plants, flowering pots, ferns and other botanicals look darling on the windowsill but are particularly resonant with those of us who can’t keep the real thing alive."
Shannon is an Assistant Professor in Publications and Print Media at OCAD University (our very own Jess Chen’s alma mater) and does a ton of really cool stuff. Check out her website here and make sure to follow her on Instagram.
