Meet Charlie Hoehn. When he was a kid, he fell in love with baseball. He started off by playing catch with his dad. As he grew, he played with his friends, joined little league and played in high school. Eventually, he burnt out his shoulder and was forced to end his baseball career.
As life went on, he found himself developing serious anxiety. He started getting panic attacks and fell into a cycle of depression. Charlie did everything he could to go back to the cheerful man he once was. He saw doctors, tried yoga, exercised more, cleaned up his diet…and nothing worked. He was totally joyless
Then, he read Play by Stuart Brown in which the author discusses the importance of having fun. Charlie realized he had been depriving himself of play. Life became increasingly stressful and work-centric. He decided to incorporate play back into his life.
Charlie began seeing his friends more, he signed up for sports and improve classes. Within a single month, he started to feel better. He realized that play recharges us and allows us to refocus so that we can go back to do great work. Humans don’t just enjoy the act of playing, they need it to function.
We liked this story because it further motivated us to continue what we’re doing. Every time we’re notified that we sold a PrismPal, we get to imagine where it might end up. Will Rhonda go to a toddler who will grow up loving it as their favourite stuffed toy? Will Spherrison go to an adult who will keep it as one more thing to smile about during the day? Maybe Cubert will go to a big kid who could use one more friendly face in their life. We always hope that wherever they end up and whoever they end up with, the PrismPals will encourage their owners to forget about their daily routines and hardships. If the PrismPals bring a little more playfulness and imagination into your life, then we’ve done our job.
